About Travel Vaccinations
You are required to be up to date on routine vaccinations while travelling to Dubai. The vaccines which are also needed are as follows:
Measles:
- Infants (6 through 11 months old): 1 dose of measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine required before travel. This dose is not seen as the first dose in the routine childhood vaccinations.
- 12 months old or older: Those who are a year old or are older, having no proof of immunity, or no written documentation of any doses must have 2 doses of MMR vaccine before travel. The 2 doses should be administered 28 days apart. Those in this age group who have written documentation of 1 dose and no other proof of immunity need 1 additional dose before travel, at least 28 days after the earlier dose.
Routine Vaccines – You need to be up-to-date on routine vaccines before every trip. These vaccines should include the following:
- measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine
- diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis vaccine
- varicella (chickenpox) vaccine
- polio vaccine
- your yearly flu shot.

Common Vaccinations
Most travelers should get travel vaccines and medicines because there is a risk of these diseases
in Dubai.
Hepatitis A – This vaccine is recommended by the CDC because you can get hepatitis A through contaminated food or water in Dubai, regardless of where you are eating or staying.
Typhoid – There is a risk for you to contract typhoid in Dubai through contaminated food or water. This is why the CDC has recommended this vaccine to be taken by most tourists visiting this country. This is even more pertinent to travelers staying with friends or relatives, or going to smaller cities or rural areas, or travellers who have the habit of experimenting with available food everywhere.
Other Vaccinations
Your doctor will inform you what vaccines and medicines you need, based on the travel destination Dubai that you are going to, and how long you are staying there. He will also consider what you will be doing and if you are travelling from a country other than the US.

- Travellers who have work outdoors in remote areas, where chances are high of getting bitten by animals (example those involved with adventure travel, caving, etc.)
- Tourists who will be working with or around animals (for instance veterinarians, wildlife professionals, and researchers).
- Travelers who are on long trips or moving to remote areas in Dubai.
- All children, since they tend to play with animals, might not report bites, and when bitten usually, have animal bites on their head and neck.
Yellow fever vaccination in Dubai – This vaccine is required for the following people:
- Those travelling from a country with risk of YF virus transmission
- Travelers who are 9 months of age or lesser
- Travelers who are in transit for less than 12 hours in an airport located in a country with a risk of YF virus transmission.
